FAQs

Why should I trust Grit ‘N Wit?

Not only do we share the same values and goals (happy, engaged, successful students!) as you, in the last 9 years we’ve worked with more than 300 individuals in your shoes. We’ve learned from each of them and improved our product and process to make it easy and successful for you.

We guarantee:

  1. This will be one of the easiest events you put on
  2. Students who participate will love it and want Grit ‘N Wit to return
  3. The event will positively impact the students
  4. Our goals align with yours. If you don’t sign up again, we’ve failed. Therefore we do everything we’d want a company to do if we worked with them.

How much does it cost?

Please find the link to the pricing guide here.

How long is the course?

How much space do you have? We’ve done races the distance of a 5K and also fit everything onto a football field.

What kind of space do you need to hold the course?

Anything works. All of the obstacles are free-standing and can be set up indoors or outdoors without leaving a mark. Once we pack it all away, you won’t even be able to tell there was an event.

How many people can participate?

We’ve hosted events for all sizes from 25 to 1,200. We can accommodate that many students because the event runs in waves or heats. Each wave can have up to eight teams, and each team generally has four people. The waves can run as frequently as every five minutes.

Can students with disabilities participate?

Definitely! Students in wheelchairs have competed in our events at a number of colleges, including Rider University, Fitchburg State, and UConn Avery Point. The way to do this is to station the mental puzzles near sidewalks, roads, or tracks so that they are easily accessible.

If we decide to work together, what does the process look like?

The general steps are:

  1. After an initial phone call to answer your questions, we’ll send more information specific to your needs so you can decide if Grit ‘N Wit is right for you.
  2. Assuming it is, we’ll visit your location to create a course map.
  3. Once you agree with the course, we’ll send a contract, insurance information, and all the marketing materials for you to promote the event.
  4. Between then and your event, we’ll have at least two phone calls, but reach out anytime you need us. We’re here to help!
  5. On the day of the event, it’s all us. But we encourage you to come and take some photos of the students having a blast! (Your boss will love that.)
  6. Within two weeks, we’ll send a highlight video of the event. We encourage sharing it with everyone at the school, including the students who attended. We’ll also have a debrief over the phone, because we value your feedback.
  7. You sign up again! The course is different every time to keep students excited, and there’s always a few surprises. (Did someone say ESPN 3?)

What all do you take care of?

The vast majority of it. Pre-race, we develop and maintain the registration page and create a buzz reel video, posters, flyers, and printouts for you to use to market the event. On the day of the event, we’ll show up about four hours beforehand to set up and mark the course. Then we’ll run the music and, when the event is complete, take everything down within two hours. Post-race, we send a highlight video within two weeks and hold a debrief call with you.

So what do I need to take care of?

Not much. Pre-race, distribute the materials we provide (a buzz reel video, posters, flyers, and printouts) to build hype and encourage students to register. On the day of the event, you’ll need eight to 12 student volunteers to assist. We may need a water station and utility gear (like a Gator) to set up some obstacles. Post-race, you get to relax and start thinking about the next Grit ‘N Wit event.

Can I really sit in a hammock and chill during the event?

Yes. Eight to 12 student or teacher volunteers are all we need to help assist our team. Note: All events are BYOH—bring your own hammock.

What do the student/teacher volunteers need to do?

Volunteers are our referees and will help at the mental puzzles by: 1) giving a hint if necessary, 2) telling the teams they solved the puzzle correctly, and 3) mixing up the puzzle again once it’s solved. It’s a very easy process for volunteers. They just need to show up 15 to  20 minutes before the event.

How do you make sure the event is a success?

We provide all the marketing materials you need: posters, flyers, a printable PDF, and a hype video. All you have to do is disseminate them. Our clients say reaching out to the heads of clubs, intramural and sports teams lead to the highest student involvement. We’ve seen that hype video views are directly correlated to participation.

How do I convince my boss to do this?

We will provide you with as much information as you need to understand the whole process from start to finish. We’ve also worked with more than 70 people in your position and can share their testimonials. We know you have high expectations—and we want to surpass them.

I’m not in the Northeast. Can you bring your event to my city?

Yes! In 2020 we will be hosting states throughout the Lower 48. Now mind you we’re out of Connecticut so more likely than not if you’re far away, say California, you’ll want to call us to find dates when we’ll be out there.

I’m interested! What’s the next step?

Excellent! Let’s talk about your event. First, we need to know more about your school to make sure Grit ‘N Wit is a good fit for you and your student body. Please complete this questionnaire, and an event coordinator will be in touch to answer your questions and go over your recommendations.

I have another question.

No problem! Please complete this questionnaire, and an event coordinator will be in touch.
